Things to Consider When Using Leather Baby Car Seats
Parents are always looking for a way to make traveling with a baby easier and many parents feel that using leather baby car seats are one of the ways to accomplish this. There are however several pros and cons to using leather in a baby car seat. Here are a few of them that you should consider.
Some Parents Love Them
When asked, many parents say that they love using the leather baby car seats because they are easier to clean then a cloth one. With a cloth car seat many spills and accidents turn into permanent stains and even though some of the seat is removable and washable much of it is not and you can end up with a car seat that is completely stained. With leather however any spill or accident can be quickly wiped up and leave no stain behind.
Leather can be Harder to Find
Finding a genuine leather car seat is more difficult than finding your standard cloth car seat. You will need to shop around for stores that specialize in baby supplies or try some high end automotive manufactures they also make the baby car seats in leather. Many people do find it easier to locate simulated leather so you may want to keep that as another option. Remember that once you do find a leather car seat you will pay more, on average, than for a cloth seat.
With the expense being a bit more for leather, when you do find them make sure that they will grow with your child. For example many of the manufacturers of leather baby car seats offer you a 3-1 seat. This means that the seat grows with the child. The first stage if for infancy when you need a rear facing seat, the next stage is for when your child weighs enough to have a forward facing car seat and then the last stage is when your child is ready for a booster seat.
Leather retains the Surrounding Temperature
One of the largest cons about using leather baby car seats is that they maintain the temperature inside the car. Many parents forget this important fact and end up with a child that is very uncomfortable or worse. An example of this is if you do not cover the car seat and the sun is beating down on it, when you return to put your child in the seat it is going to be very hot. Putting a child in a hot car seat can lead to burns on exposed skin. The same can be said if it is extremely cold out; the seat will remain very cold. So when you are using a baby seat with leather make sure that you cover it when it is not in use and test the surface with your hand before putting your child in it.
When you are deciding on a car seat for your child make sure that you look at all the pros and cons associated with the type of seat you are looking for. Buying leather baby car seats is a great way to get a car seat that is easy to maintain and will actually grow with your child.
